Singing is an instrument

Singing is an instrument of expression, connection and communication that has been used like that for centuries all over the world. It’s only in the last 100 or maybe 200 years that we (especially in the west) have been treating it like it something that only few of us can do while the rest of us is doomed to be the audience. That is fundamentaly false, because everyone with a voice can sing. Allready when we talk, we use rhythm and melodies and dynamics, which is also what we do when we sing. Sure, some voices are more pleasant to listen to then others and some people have a better sense of tone and music but the instrument is something everyone with a voice can use, enjoy and recieve the benefits from.

WHEN WE SING WE:

– step up and take our place
– allow ourselves to be heared and to been seen
– we open up to what is alive within ourselves and give expression to it
– connect with ourselves, each other and the world around us
– communicate to life itself, recieve insight and manifest our lives

In a singing circle we sing songs that carry the message of the heart and help us to connect to what is alive within us and who we are on a deeper level. Many cultures link these deeper level archetype energies like love or compassion to Gods, Goddesses or Spirits, but I believe we all carry these qualities within us. When we sing, we activate them and bring them to the surface. All that which doesn’t resonate with it and blocks us from embodying our potential, will also come up to the surface where it can be seen and transformed. In that sense, the singing circle is a home where both the light and the dark within us can be met.
